Life is precious

I finished reading "The Stranger" by Albert Camus. It's a dark and despairing narrative on human life and existence. On a side note it also demonstrates the flaws in our judicial system (even though the book takes place prior to WWII in France - I'm assuming early 1930's). Basically the protagonist, Meursault, is an atheist who has no beliefs or emotional attachment to anything. He kills a man due to an unfortunate series of events and is sentenced to the death penalty. "Que sara sara" eloquently sums up his philosophy on life all the way to his execution. At the end of the book a priest tries to convert the man to Christianity but to no avail. Shortly after Meresault concludes that the only freedom and reality in this world is death and then he is executed. It was a pretty captivating read once you get past the first 4-5 chapters of the book and so long as you don't mind the depressing undertone.

I picked up my parents from the airport tonight at 10:30pm. They were on vacation in Canada for the last 5 days. On our way home we got stuck in heavy traffic because of a fatal motorcycle accident. When we passed by the scene I could see the cops measuring the point of the crash to where the bike had finally come to a stop. I'd say it was at least 50 yards. All that was left was a demolished bike and a broken helmet. For some reason this scene made me think of Meursault. I sincerely hope that the biker new Christ and didn't live a life believing that things are simply because they are. I pray that the biker's family takes comfort in the Lord. I've been reminded that the only hope in this life and human existence is Christ. Life is so precious...we really take it for granted.

Economic crisis

The dow dropped another 2.42%. People are getting laid off, hiring is coming to a halt, and people aren't spending their money which is only making matters worse. I on the other hand am doing my part to contribute to the economy. Say hello to my new pony - Moby...

...Okay. So it's a Japanese made bike but this economic crisis has gone global. The way I see it I helped the Japanese economy, helped our economy (I paid with Paypal who gets a transaction % share), and I also plan on buying the rest of the components from US dealers...so keep your pants on =p

I rode my horse to work today for the first time. It was a very pleasant experience. I woke up at 7:00. Left my house at 7:45 and got to the cal train station at 8:05. My train arrived at 8:27 and I hit my destination at 9:02. I got into work at 9:20. It was a nice ride. The air was crisp and the fog was just clearing. There is a strange peace I find sitting in a train watching the less visited parts of the bay pass by my window. Lets see if I can do this 2-3 days a week.

My manager has been spending every Monday for the last month in 8 hour meetings discussing company budget cuts and what not. Lots of rumors have been developing as a result of these meetings. I hope I don't lose my job in the coming days, but if I do my friend Ryan eased my fears by telling me, and I quote "Well for what its worth unemployment checks are ~1800/month". Cool beans.

The elements

Crazy weekend in LA. I forgot how much fun it is just to be in an environment where the ratio between girls and guys are on par. Man Jose how I loath you.

I can't believe its already Mid October. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas - all just around the corner. I've had a lot of time to myself lately which has been kind of nice, but it also made me realize how monotonous my life has become. I wake up at 7am, try to do qt, get ready for work, leave my house by 8, get in the office at 9, work till 5:30, get home by 6:30 and then spend the rest of my nights either playing guitar, softball, video games or watching television. This time last year I was solely dedicated to making music and pursuing a dream that's sadly faded away. What drives a person to relentlessly pursue a dream? More importantly what causes the majority of us to stop dreaming and settle for less?
